DOBY STRENGTH CENTER
The renaming of the Duluth High School Football Weight Room to the "Doby Strength Center" stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of James Doby, a beloved figure within the Duluth High School community. A graduate of the class of 2020, James exemplified qualities of compassion, loyalty, and unwavering dedication, endearing himself to many as a dear friend and teammate. His profound love for football and his relentless commitment to personal growth were evident in the extra time he spent in the weight room, where he poured his heart into every lift.
James's passion for strength training was unwavering, a testament to his unyielding dedication. Though his life was tragically cut short during his freshman year of college, his memory continues to inspire those who knew him. Through the generosity of his family and the support of his close friends, the initial contribution to the Duluth High School Football Program sparked a transformational renovation of the weight room, now named in his honor. In addition to this gesture, the Football program established the James Doby Scholarship, an annual award presented to a senior who embodies James's spirit of camaraderie, love for lifting weights, and compassionate nature. This scholarship serves as a lasting tribute to James's impact and legacy, ensuring that his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of future generations of Duluth High School athletes.
